In 1939, Kamala Sohonie became the first Indian woman to earn a PhD in a scientific field, breaking barriers at a time when women in science were underrepresented. She was the first woman to lead the Royal Institute of Science in Bombay, and her work on "Neera" earned her the Rashtrapati Award.
